Our Department
The Pflugerville area is served by Emergency Services
District #2 and the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department.
The Emergency Services District was created by conversion
from a Rural Fire Prevention District on January 18,
1992 under Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety
code to provide fire protection and first response emergency
medical care to residents and businesses not served by
other jurisdictions.
The District covers an estimated 100 square miles in
Northeast Travis County, Texas, which sits astride Interstate
Highway 35 approximately 14 miles north of the central
business district of the City of Austin. The area is
roughly bound by Farm-to-Market Road 1325 in the West,
the Travis-Williamson County line on the North, Farm-to-Market
Road 973 and Cameron Road on the East, and Yager Lane,
Dessau Road and Howard Lane on the South.
The District provides fire protection and first response
emergency medical care within its jurisdiction in close
partnership with the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department
(the "PVFD"). The District is currently served by personnel
and equipment working out of 4 fire stations. The District
is governed by a five-member board of Emergency Services
Commissioners, appointed by the Travis County Commissioners
Court. Each of the Commissioners is a resident within
the District.
The Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department (the "PVFD")
contracts with the District to assist in the provision
of services. The PVFD was formerly chartered in 1955
by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need to
provide service to the community and surrounding area.
Since then, the PVFD has grown in size and responsibility
and assists in the provision of services to the District.
Paid District personnel and members of the PVFD are the
primary personnel resource within the District. Our volunteers
are trained in a continual program run by the District.
The District contracts with a private company to provide
dispatch services for the District. Additionally, the
District has mutual aid agreements with most of the area
fire departments including the City of Austin.
